Medify MA-40 Air Purifier Review

Modern air purifiers work quite well, but manufacturers are now more focused on aesthetics. Medify MA-40 Air Purifier is provided by Medify Air, a US-based Kickstarter company. In recent years, the company has launched several attractive and effective air purifiers.

The Medify MA-40 is the third highest coverage air purifier in the Medify ground air purifier line after the MA-112 and MA-50. This device has a 3-in-1 filter and an optional ionizer. Following is the Medify MA-40 air purifier review.

Medify MA-40 Design

The air purifier looks very beautiful and unconventional compared to other models on the market. The outer cover is a glossy white plastic with a small hole in the front that allows clean, filtered air to enter the room. The back of the device is also white, but has horizontal slots all the way down the panel that suck in the air to be filtered.

At the top of the air purifier is a black reflective panel that includes air purifier controls. All controls are digital and require a gentle finger touch to operate the device. The device is not really that big and will not take up much space. It is only 22 inches high and 10 inches deep and wide. The total weight of the device is only 15 pounds and the handle on the back panel allows you to move it from one room to another.

Medify MA-40 Filters

Pre-filter

The first layer of defense is the pre-filter. The pre-filter traps larger contaminants such as lint, pet dander, mold spores and dust. It also prevents the HEPA filter from clogging quickly.

H13 Class HEPA Filtration

Medify MA-40 has H13 grade HEPA filter for core particle filtration. The removal efficiency of class HEPA H13 filters is 99.95% at 0.12-0.25 microns (MPPS). They can trap small air pollutants such as fine dust, smoke particles and germs. Medify claims that this filter can remove 99.9% of particles down to 0.1 microns in size.

Pellet-based Activated Carbon Filter

The final stage of the composite filter is the odor and gas filter. The honeycomb-shaped filter is filled with activated carbon granules that absorb air odors and VOCs. Medify does not mention the amount of activated carbon used in the filter, but it is thick enough to remove a slight odor from the house.

Optional Ionizer

Medify MA-40 air purifier also has an optional ionizer. When it is turned on, the charged particles are released and stick to the dust floating in the air. Then heavy particles fall to the ground. Ionizers only help remove particles from the air, they cannot remove odorous contaminants.

Medify MA-40 Room Coverage

Medify MA-40 air purifier can cover a room of 400 square feet, which is better than the more expensive Medify MA-440.

The ACH of Medify MA-40 is 2X to 4X. If the Medify MA-40 does only two exchanges in 1 hour, it can cover a space of 800 square feet. And for an ACH rating of 1X, the room coverage can be 1300 square feet.

Medify MA-40 Sound and Power Consumption

The noise level of the air purifier is 46 dB at the lowest fan speed and 66 dB at the highest fan speed. The noise level is slightly higher than the air delivery rate. For reference, 70 decibels is the amount of sound produced by a vacuum cleaner.

The minimum noise is 46 decibels, which is not “too quiet”. So if you want to use it in your bedroom at night, you should keep it a little away from your bed.

You are using this Medify air purifier with tremendous power, and you should be satisfied with a power rating of only 68 watts. Using Medify MA-40 for 8 hours a day costs $ 24 each year.
