Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier Review

An air purifier is a device that uses a variety of mechanisms to purify the air, depending on the type of air purifier, to remove dust particles, allergens, and even bacteria. For instance the HEPA Air purifier, the Ionizer, and the activated carbon air purifier.

These types of air purifiers use a variety of mechanisms to purify the air and keep us away from mold spores, dust particles, allergens, and other forms of irritants. Some of these types also help get rid of odors, and some help people with respiratory problems.

The Winix 5500-2 air purifier, which combines the technologies of all types of air purifiers mentioned above to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier Design

The 5500-2 is a well-designed air purifier made of high quality materials. The simple design in neutral color fits in any room.

The air intakes are on both the front panel and both sides. The good news is that the air is released after penetrating from the top of the device. This feature is useful because it does not allow air to flow directly towards you if you are standing in front of it.

At the top of the front panel is a control panel with many options for control. The back of the control panel is a handle that is convenient to carry.

Pre-Filter

A mesh pre-filter is a washable physical screen that keeps out large particles of dust, dirt, fur, hair, pet dander and other debris. The pre-filter ensures that these large contaminant particles do not clog the internal filter.

AOC Carbon Filter

After the pre-filter, there is an activated carbon filter that Winix calls an AOC (Advanced Odor Control) filter. This filter needs to be replaced every 12 months, but the interesting thing about this filter is that it is washable, unlike other activated carbon filters. Winix is recommended to be cleaned every 3 months to keep it clean.

The Winix 5500-2 AOC Washable Carbon Filter is designed to remove household odors, gases and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air. The AOC filter uses activated carbon as the main component to remove gaseous pollutants.

HEPA Filter

The final physical filter on Winix 5500-2 air purifier is the true HEPA filter. HEPA is not just an acronym. This is an internationally recognized air filter standard used in various home appliances.

According to the HEPA standard, the air filter must be able to remove at least 99.97% of particles larger than 0.3 micron. HEPA filters can remove contaminants such as dust mite, pet dander, pollen and others.

Unlike the other two filters in Winix 5500-2, HEPA filters cannot be vacuumed, cleaned or washed. In fact, doing any of these can reduce filtration efficiency.
